Ataman: “Mykonos fought until the end, but we found the way”

Panathinaikos BC AKTOR head coach Ergin Ataman stated the following during the post-game press conference after the road matchup against Mykonos Betsson BC:

“It’s exciting to come to Mykonos to play a first-division game. Maybe the gym is small, but I liked the organization, the atmosphere, the passion that all the authorities and the people here have for basketball. In Mykonos you have great potential, many sponsors, big companies that make a lot of money during the summer — I know that. I hope Mykonos continues its journey in the top division.

It wasn’t easy for us to be 100% focused, especially after the EuroLeague game, where we played a perfect second half. When you come to Mykonos, it’s not easy to motivate the players to compete in the domestic league, so we had many concentration issues. We missed a lot of open shots, three-pointers. We scored only 4 out of 24 from deep, which is unusual for us. Mykonos fought until the end, but we found the way to win the game.

We didn’t use Juancho because he has a knee injury and a back problem. The doctors told me not to use him. We also have an issue with Osman — he stayed in Athens due to the ankle problem he suffered in the previous EuroLeague game, but I believe that on Tuesday everyone will be on the court at 100% and will try to get another win at the Telekom Center Athens. After Tuesday we will have a EuroLeague break due to the National Teams. We will be fine. I believe Yurtseven will return on Tuesday. As for Holmes, I hope he will join the team after the break.”
