Ataman: “After the second quarter we played aggressive defense”

Panathinaikos BC AKTOR head coach Ergin Ataman spoke at the press conference following the home game against Promitheas Patras VIKOS COLA:

“At first, I heard today that it is Saint Dimitrios’ Day — we have many in the club who celebrate, so I wish them all the best. In the first quarter we were soft, we weren’t aggressive enough on defense. In the second quarter we improved defensively, became tougher, scored in transition, and used Yurtseven and Mitoglou correctly under the basket. We controlled the game and we used players who don’t get many minutes in the EuroLeague. It was a regular domestic league game. There is a difference in the level between the two competitions — we continue.

I’m sorry, but I can’t say anything specific about the injured players. I’ll know tomorrow after our practice. If we don’t have enough players, we will need to bring some up from the academy — this is the situation in the club. Every game this season in the EuroLeague is very difficult. If we don’t find the mentality that we had in previous years, it will be a tough season for us.

I don’t know about Lessort. I don’t know if Holmes and Hernangomez will play — I don’t have Lessort in my mind right now. I don’t know, I have no update. The truth is that if we are not ready, we won’t win, no matter how many fans come to support us. Panathinaikos BC AKTOR cannot win any game just by the name on the jersey. The players must prove it on the court. It is my responsibility to prepare them, but if the players are not at practice, how can I do that? This is a staff problem.”
