The game was balanced in its opening minutes, with Virtus Bologna taking a 6–4 lead in the 5th minute and Panathinaikos BC AKTOR moving ahead 9–8 in the following minute. In the 8th minute, the hosts made it 14–11, while in the 9th minute they pulled away to a double-digit lead (23–13), before closing the first quarter at 23–15.
