Greek Cup: The first victory

Panathinaikos is the Greek Cup winner 2014. Panathinaikos is the team with the most trophies in the competition. The beginning, the first step, the first win took place many years ago. A day like today, on the April 8th, 1978.

The first two years of the competition weren't perfect for the Greens, waving "goodbye" to the Greek Cup, early in the season. In 1977-78 things changed and it was time for the first win. This first victory took place in "Alexandreio", in Thessaloniki against Anatolis. Panathinaikos won 138-75 (69-38).

Panathinaikos (Papadimitriou): Kokolakis 10, Kontos 53, Chaikalis 2, Koronaios 26, Papantoniou 20, Petrakakis 9, Batis 16, Kakogeorgiou 2, Malliaros, Iordanidis

Panathinaikos didn't manage to celebrate the title in 1978, as the team was beaten at the semifinals by AEK (81-83 OT, 75-75) at "Panathinaiko" stadium. Clover celebrated the first title in Greek Cup in 1979. Since then the Greens have 15 trophies in the competition, more than any other team.
