Panathinaikos and Papagiannis reach agreement

Panathinaikos BC announces the agreement with Giorgos Papagiannis, who is considered to be one of the biggest talents worldwide.

The president of Panathinaikos BC, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, respecting the wish of the player to combine studies and sports at the USA, gives the athlete the choice to choose for summer 2015.

Papagiannis was born on July the 3rd 1997 and he is 2m17. He played for the U16 Men's National Team, while at this time he is a member of the U18 Men's National Team, which will participate in the European Championship in Konya, Turkey this summer and also a member of the U17 Men's National Team which will compete at the World Championship in Dubai. He began his basketball career at Megara, he briefly played at Olympiacos' basketball academy, before moving to Peristeri. On January 5th, 2012 he played for Basket League OPAP, being 14 years and 6 months old. Something which made him the younger player to ever play in this division.

Last summer he moved to the USA to play basketball at Westtown High School (Pensylvania).

After getting to an agreement, Giorgos Papagiannis stated: "I want to thank Panathinaikos' BC president, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, for believing me and bringing me to the team. I wish to thank him, because I wanted myself to be a member of Panathinaikos. Also, I wish to thank mr Argyris Pedoulakis for believing in me since when I was 14 years old and he told me that the best way to move on is to sign for Panathinaikos. He helped me a lot to make my decision. And of course I wish to thank my parents, Kanellos and Maris and my brother Minas, since they all support me all these years and they are precious to me".
