With Panathinaikos since: 2004

Words, same as statistics, fall short when it comes to describing Dimitris Diamantidis’ game. The number of points marked next to his name on the scoreboard is probably the last thing he cares about. He is the kind of player that cares first and foremost for the team and will do everything in his power to lead it to victory. A low profile guy in his personal life, he steps hard on the accelerator inside the court since there is not a single ball that he doesn’t fight for hands and nails. Having won titles not only on team but also on individual level, all he insists on is simply to work harder and harder. He is a great 3-point shooter, an ideal pick-and-roll player, can penetrate all the way to the basket or even finish the play with an emphatic move. His height and long limbs have earned him the prerogative of posting up his opponent, while the long list of his virtues also features his ability to swiftly and effectively reading through his opponent’s game plans, thus easily creating opportunities for his teammates. His name might just as well be the title to the defense chapter in basketball textbooks.  Save for a single year, he has been named Euroleague Best Defender since the moment the title was established. The very quintessence of team player and a player that has emerged to a leading figure status through his experience on the court, Diamantidis took over the torch from Alvertis and became captain of Panathinaikos.  By the end of the 2010-2011 season he had been named best player, best defender, member of the All-Euroleague first team as well as the HEBA Championship First Team, let alone the title of the Barcelona Final Four MVP. He took them all with a clean sweep…
