CSKA M.-Panathinaikos 77-74

Panathinaikos came back from -13, built a 5point lead, but went down in overtime (playing without Lasme, who was charged with 5 fouls) against CSKA Moscow. Russians got the positive result (77-74) and they lead 1-0 in the Euroleague play offs series.

Panathinaikos' defense took over early in the game. Five steals in the first period, with Jonas Maciulis leading the way with four, allowed them to take a lead (4-6, 2'58''). Greens couldn't translate the good defense into points in offense. At the same time CSKA Moscow got into rhythm, made some long distance shots and got solutions in the paint from Kyle Hines, took advantage of the second chances through offensive rebounds and made it from 9-8 (4'50'') to 17-8 (7'10''). Wright, Gist and Maciulis cut the margin (19-14, 9'40''), Lasme made it 21-16 (10'30''), but CSKA seemed to have the right choices making it a 13 points game (31-18, 14'32''). Two assists by Dimitris Diamantidis looked like game changing. Panathinaikos found the way to the basket, while its defense regained its passion and first half ended 40-33. One the notable things of the first 20 minutes was the fact that Greens were 0/8 behind the arc, while the Russians were 4/9.

Panathinaikos had to reach a 0/10 before making a three point shot. It was Jonas Maciulis who made it, along with his 5th steal in the game. Maciulis actually made two three pointers, Antonis Fotsis added two more, Diamantidis followed the same path and it was a whole different game. The deficit was cut to two points (47-45, 24'45''). CSKA Moscow tried to make its come back (51-45, 25'40''), but the Greens were back for good, approaching to 2 points again (58-56, 30').

Diamantidis was there to make it a one point game (60-59, 32'25''), Lasme tied the game (60-60, 32'56'') and after Diamantidis dished his 6th assist in the game Lasme gave the lead to the Clover (60-62, 34'45''). The same duo led to +3 (62-65, 35'50''). Lasme was accurate from the charity line (62-67). Weems tied the game (70-70, 39'), Gist with a follow gave the lead back to Panathinaikos (70-72), he missed the plus one he was awarded and Hines led to overtime (72-72). Lasme was already out, charged with 5 fouls.

Greens took the first lead in OT (72-74, 41') but the Russians prevailed the rest of the extra five minutes reaching the win with the final 77-74.
