Panathinaikos adds Ponitka

Panathinaikos BC has signed Mateusz Ponitka (29, 1.98 meters) for the for the upcoming season.

Ponitka is a basketball player, born on August 25, 1993 in Ostrów, Poland. He is a guard-forward who last played for BC Zenit Saint Petersburg.

He started playing basketball in UKS Kasprowiczanka Ostrow Wielkopolski, before moving in 2009 to AZS Warsaw University of Technology.

He Signed for the 2009-10 season by AZS Politechnika Warszawa and he played there till the 2011-12 championship.

On March'12 he signed by Asseco Prokom Gdynia.

Then Ponitka moved to Belgium for the 2013-14 season, signed by BC Oostende and he played there also the 2014-15 championship.

He returned to Poland for the 2015-16 season, signed by Stelmet Zielona Gora.

The next season he moved to Turkey, played for Pinar Karsiyaka.

He to Spain for the 2017-18 season, signed by CB Canarias Tenerife.

The next season he signed by Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, Russia.

Ponitka signed for the 2019-20 season by Zenit St Petersburg and he played there till 2022.

He played at EuroBasket 2022 for Poland. In the quarter-finals against heavily favoured Slovenia, he guided Poland to a 90–87 upset win to reach the first semifinals in 51 years.

Ponitka finished with 26 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists to become the fourth player in EuroBasket history to record a triple-double.
